Children Lacking Security They Deserve |

(OpEd, Sunday Gazette-Mail, WV )—As the remaining presidential
candidates campaign in West Virginia before the upcoming primary in
May, here are some facts that won't be mentioned often in their
debates, ads, and speeches:
nearly 34,000 West Virginia children are not covered by health insurance, 22,400 are reported abused, and more than 27,000 lack access to high-quality early care, learning and pre-kindergarten programs. The awful truth is many of our children, in West Virginia and across the United States, experience homeland insecurity on a scale unknown in the other rich democracies.
