Making Children a National Political Priority
Low-Income Children Not Getting Adequate Dental Care E-mail

While it comes as no surprise that children who are not covered by insurance visit the dentist less, a new study indicates that even those children who have Medicaid or are covered by SCHIP are less likely to receive adequate dental care than those with private insurance.

There also seems to be a racial disparity in regards to how frequently children are taken to the dentist. While it is recommended that children have regular 6-month checkups, Among children covered by Medicaid, Latino and black children were significantly less likely than white children to have had a dental visit in the past six months.

The survey contains data on over 11,300 children, and revealed that while 53 % had visted a dentist in the past 6 months, nearly 24% of the kids studied had never been in their lifetime. To read more about the study, click here.
