Senate reaches 60 votes -- will allow health care debate to continue E-mail

As many of you have already heard, the Senate voted on Saturday night to continue the debate on health care reform.  Here's a clip of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid discussing this historic vote:

While the Senate was able to secure the 60 votes necessary to advance this legislation, significant hurdles remain for passage. We believe that allowing the Senate to debate this issue is a major step forward, and we hope that the ongoing debate will provide opportunities to improve the bill on behalf of children and families, including efforts to strengthen the CHIP program. The Senate will engage in full-scale health care debate when they return from Thanksgiving, and we will keep you informed along the way as to how health care reform could benefit children and families.
