One of the most devastating impacts of the recession has been that as families struggle to make ends meet, more and more children are going hungry. There are already 12.5 million children at risk for hunger in the U.S. And the recession is expected to plunge 3 million more children into poverty.

CBS reporter Seth Doane traveled to Philadelphia to meet the families featured in a photographic exhibit called "Witnesses to Hunger," which emerged from Marian Chilton's idea to give cameras to 42 lower-income Philadelphia mothers. "It's a way of saying, 'My child is hungry. I've struggled and this is what my child looks like,'" says Chilton, of the Drexel University School of Public Health.  Lack of nutrition at an early age can stunt both physical and mental growth, so when children do not have enough to eat, the consequences are severe and long lasting.
