»See report in The Las Vegas Sun Our guest speakers−which included Gerri Schroder from the Henderson City Counsel, Fernando Lopez discussing Mexican Independence Day, Cathy Harney with After School All Stars, and Dr. Noah Kohn with Communities in Schools—kicked off the event by focusing on children's issues and the positive impact that our community and organizations have had on children in Nevada. Several organizations set up information booths and educational activities for children. Deputy Drip, Mojave Max, and Miss United States 2008 posed for photos with the kids while they enjoyed the festivities. We would like thank Fresh and Easy Grocery Store, Red Rock Water, JR Lighting, Family to Family, Las Vegas Entertainment, Good Humor, and Nevadans for Quality Education, United Methodist Church for their donations and to East Valley Family Service and to Hope Link for coordination and assistance with volunteers.
