 Channel 2 News, Reno Nevada- John Potter

Child care costs are growing like the kids themselves. For just one child, it's now over $9,000 a year for 9-to-5 care in Nevada. It's tough for parents. At the Children's Cabinet, program manager Marty Elquist told us that "right now it's especially tough. We had an annual survey that showed 12% of our families left their current providers so they could find care that was more affordable for their families."

National Night Out - August 3rd E-mail

ECM Nevada will be present at the following events:
Clark High School: National-Night-Out and Back-to-School Fair
6-8 pm and
Cambridge Community Center: National Night Out Community Event 6-8 pm

The "27th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 3, 2010 (Texas will celebrate on October 5th, 2010).

Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:

  • block parties,
  • cookouts,
  • visits from local police and sheriff departments
  • parades, exhibits,
  • flashlight walks,
  • contests, and
  • youth programs.

NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.
