Las Vegas, Nevada – On Wednesday, December 17, the Children’s Leadership Council (CLC) will launch its “Invest in Children, Strengthen America” campaign. Nevada’s launch event is one of 10 happening this week across the country– the CLC coalition has representatives and member organizations in every state and brings together a broad range of leading policy experts and activists for children and youth of every age. The CLC is a unique coalition of child advocates representing 36 leading national policy and advocacy organizations who are working everyday to improve the health, education and well-being of children and youth in order to prepare them for school, work, and life. For the first time, there is a strong, unified group of organizations speaking with one voice to achieve a singular mission – building the public awareness and creating the political will necessary to make greater federal investments in America’s children and youth a reality.

In Nevada alone, we are currently facing a major budget deficit. Sadly, the economic crisis and the cuts made to balance the budget will have a disproportionally negative impact on Nevada’s children. As the job market falters and unemployment rises, the result is more children and families at risk of falling into poverty, increased stress in coping with job loss and tighter budgets, increased food insecurity, the loss of health insurance, and instability in housing and child care. The “Invest in Children, Strengthen America” campaign will focus on both short and long term investments that are proven effective and save taxpayers money in the long run, all while preparing children and youth for school, work, and life by improving the health, education, and well-being of children across America.
