Hula Hoops and Campaign Stops - A Day in the Kids Campaign PDF E-mail

Friday, August 8 was a busy day for our grassroots efforts to reach out to the public and policy makers and encourage them to embrace a children's agenda.

nv_clintonrally08.jpgWe stopped by a Democratic "Campaign for Change" rally in Henderson, where Hillary Clinton was the main speaker.  She addressed the crowd about bringing America together and Democratic unity in the upcoming Presidential vote, where Barack Obama is the presumed nominee of the party.  We were able to speak to many Democratic voters at the event about the children's issues that should be on their list of priorities in this election year (and addressed by the newly-elected administration), as well as handing out our ever-popular bumper stickers.

nv_hoopday08.jpgNext, we did our best hip swings at hula hoop for world peace.  The First Annual Las Vegas “World Hoop Day” Community Peace Celebration was hosted by Luv2Hoop, Project Purpose, True Power Fitness, DJ VRG and numerous local "hoopers."  Beyond hula hooping, people could partake in meditation and visualization exercises on World Peace, and enjoy free refreshments while talking with neighbors about peace issues on this auspicious day (the nuclear bombing of Japan in WWII).  Every Child Matters in Nevada hula hooped with the best of them, while providing folks with voting resources.

Finally, we headed over to a John McCain event hosted by McCain's Hispanic Coalition at the Latin Chamber of Commerce. The discussion was headlined by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez.  Gutierrez and about 15 business leaders from the Hispanic community supporting John McCain discussed their common issues.  We had the opportunity to speak with several of the local businessmen about our efforts to ensure children are not lost in the many issues that a President must face once elected.

Unity, Peace, and Business.  Rallying, Hula Hooping, Policy Discussions.  All in a day's work for us here at Every Child Matters.
