Who: Action for Children North Carolina, NC Pediatrics Society, Covenant with North Carolina’s Children and MomsRising present the third annual Step Up and Act for Children event. Children and youth from the Islamic Center of Raleigh, Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, Temple Beth Or and Umstead Park United Church of Christ will be participating. What: Step Up is celebrated nationally Oct 4-10. Advocates, families, children and concerned citizens call on state and federal leaders to remember and acknowledge the needs of children in our communities and invest in the critical programs and services to meet those needs. Agenda includes:
- Children’s demonstration – Children and youth from local faith communities will present the realities of child well-being in North Carolina and encourage leaders and candidates for office to invest in children.
- Press conference – speakers include:
- Dave Tayloe, MD, Goldsboro pediatrician and immediate past-president of the American Academy of Pediatrics will address the importance of investing in children’s health;
- A youth who was involved in the adult criminal justice system will address the importance of investing in adequate services for at-risk and court-involved youth
- Children’s march – children will walk around the Capitol building with their signs and their adults.
- Letters to Congress – those who wish to may sign letters to Congress on key child well-being issues.
