Voter Registration Restored at Head Start
(January 23, 2008) —When President Bush signed legislation reauthorizing Head Start in December, it contained a little known provision which will allow nonpartisan voter registration activities to be conducted at Head Start facilities during hours of operation--something long denied. While the use of federal funds to conduct voter registration at Head Start sites will still be prohibited, allowing on-site registration by nonpartisan groups will increase the number of low income individuals participating in the electoral process.
